Trying not to look, but can’t look away…

Friends, please, do something about the US. What is happening there is something out of a dystopian novel. Maybe you all need to reread The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (or watch the series) to get some perspective on just how bad things can get if you don’t do something soon.

I can’t even look at the headlines these days without my whole body trembling.

The military sent to Los Angeles to stop peaceful protests???

Foreign reporters being shot with rubber bullets?

Immigrants being rounded up and sent to camps?

What is happening there is not normal. Everyone in the world knows it; and you know it too. Have you forgotten everything you learned in Western Civ class? The fall of the Roman Empire? World Wars I & II ?????

I understand that sense of powerlessness you feel. During the madman’s first regime, we protested, wrote, marched, politicked and screamed into the void and no one responded. We recognized that what used to work no longer does. We waited, and were, for a brief moment, given a reprieve. But that grace period is over and the mayhem that we thought impossible to resurrect has done just that, only this time with a vengeance. So, this time, something has to change.

I made my choice eight years ago. I moved out the country, and, boy, am I ever glad I did. Things may not be perfect here in Mexico, but they are certainly less crazy than they are where you are these days. This country is at least trying to move forward, to build a better world for its people. They even elected a woman president!

Your country is moving backward, decaying, rotting from the top down in a very public and disgraceful fashion.

When people here ask me about your country, I can only respond, “it’s not my country anymore.” I am embarrassed, no — ashamed — to see what has happened to the world’s once great beacon of hope. I ask the people here, “Why do you want to go there? They don’t want you.” But they only see opportunities to provide better for their families here despite the hardship and hate they would face there. Yet they welcome us with open arms.

Of course, the horrors of our time don’t stop at your border. The whole world has gone topsy-turvy. Sudan, The Middle East, Russia and Ukraine, China, global climate change…. But at least the saner minds in the EU are working on addressing some of these issues. They recognize the trend. They have lived through it before and are certain they do not want to go back. They have learned from their mistakes and are today willing to face the music, to lead the charge so that their children and their grandchildren don’t have to look back with shame and regret.

The tragedy that is the world right now needs these leaders — and new ones — with the courage to lift their voices and raise their arms against the looming madness. Leaders who will say “enough is enough.” Leaders who will confront the world’s problems head-on and stand fast against the tyranny that they once again face.

Albeit difficult, I admit that my generation (the boomers) created these issues — ironically the same generation that fought against the unfairness and brutality of the Vietnam War and the subjugation of women and minorities — but it will take the next generations to fix them. We need great young minds and novel ideas to push the world back onto its track and get it moving forward again. We need a million Greta Thornburg’s willing to put themselves in harm’s way for a cause. A million Tom Friedman’s, David Brooks’ and Anthony Capehart’s to speak truth to power.

A million people like you to stand in defense of freedom, liberty and justice for all.

  1. First Ms. Geisler I am ashamed that people like you exist. You are crying about illegal aliens who have broken our countries laws by coming ILLEGALLY and a good number of them have killed and injured our fellow Americans, but no tears for the dead and injured Americans only for criminals.

You and your husband and many others including me came to Mexico legally we didn’t break Mexico’s laws so why should the illegals coming to America be treated dfferently than any other criminal. What is good for the goose is good for the gander!!

Your beloved democrats have ruined California homeless everywhere. Drugs everywhere. Illegals everywhere and American taxpayers pay through the nose.

You are correct America is a dystopian nightmare and President Trump is trying toclean up the mess that deranged Joe left behind!! In the Middle East the Paleo’s are gettig exactly what the deserve after participating in the October 7th masacre. I don’t want to hear anything about the poor Paleo’s they started it the IDF will finish it and when they are done maybe the Paleo’s will learn to behave like decent humans not like thugs!!

You see Ms. Geisler unlike you most people live in the real world not wearing ROSE COLORED GLASSES where every woke idea is briliant in fact most people hate woke ideas and the results of such stupidity!!

Long live the IDF, Donald Trump and lets make sure Wokeness is dead and buried forever!!

One day Ms. Geisler maybe you’ll take off your Rose Colored Glasses!!

    1. Dear Aaron,

Clearly you didn’t read the warning and the request not to send me your hate. This blog is to express my opinions. Your comment is just a lot of hate being spewed on everyone. Perhaps you are correct that I view the world through rose-colored glasses, but that is my choice. I believe everyone has the right to be free, to express themselves, and to live without fear of violence. No where did I condone illegal actions. If you think he is a good president, go on back and live with the mess he is creating.

      Thanks again, Donna

  2. I’m sorry, phrases like “you can’t take the heat” and “your nonsense,” are not “truthful” statements — they are expressions of opinion.

Aaron, I did not criticize you or your ideas, but you feel free to criticize me and mine. Look back at your remarks.

You live in Mexico where you are welcomed. Why are LEGAL IMMIGRANTS from Mexico and around Latin America being targeted in the US?

Perhaps if you were to be targeted here because you are white and speak English you would have a different opinion about what is happening in the US.

And, I do not dispute that what happened on October 7 in Israel was an unspeakable tragedy! But what Israel has done is akin to genocide. And, more importantly, I DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE SPECIFICS, ONLY THAT IT WAS A HORRIBLE SITUATION. You read into what you wanted to in order to justify your position.

You are a bigot and a bully. I did not invite you to read my blog. You chose to. And then you chose to be rude to me, who you don’t even know.

So, just unsubscribe. I am not going to do the work for you.

    Good riddance!
