My recent exchanges with a reader have forced me to write this new post. Listen, this is MY BLOG. I get to say what I want to say. It is intended for a specific audience — my friends and family and others who find the content of interest. If you don’t like it, don’t readContinue reading “Take your hate and go away”

Where is our humanity?
(Warning. Read at your own risk.) This has been a tough couple of weeks around the world. From the wars in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza, to the mass shooting in Maine and the horrendous hurricane in Acapulco. Watching, reading and listening to the news has become the hardest thing to do these days. It just ripsContinue reading “Where is our humanity?”
Did you read it?
I recently read the Executive Summary from the January 6 Select Committee. Wow. Bombshell!
Word of the Year: Unprecedented
Wow, ending 2022 with a referral to indict a former president of the United States is, indeed, unprecedented. Completely. Never in the history of the US has this happened before. The questionContinue reading “Word of the Year: Unprecedented”
Adventures in a new land.
Since I wrote last, a lot has happened (or not, depending on your point of view). 2020 no ha terminado
Not sure you noticed, but we are substantially into 2021 and it still feels like a continuation of last year. You can’t buy alcohol either in a restaurant or at a storeContinue reading “2020 no ha terminado”
Old, but still worthy: A letter from Quarantine
Friends, I wrote the following while I was teaching narrative writing to one of my advanced English students. I recently discovered it still lurking on my computer and thought I might share. Before you read it, please know it was a writing exercise from September and not a reflection of my current state of mind.Continue reading “Old, but still worthy: A letter from Quarantine”
Weather
As Hurricane Delta barrels down on the Yucatan, I find myself wondering what the hell we were thinking when we bought a house a literal stone’s throw from the Caribbean. While news outlets can’t agree whether it’s the third or the ninth storm of the season (wide gap there, guys), they do agree on itContinue reading “Weather”
Life is what happens…
Most of you know the saying — “life is what happens when you’ve made other plans,” so what is what happens when you don’t? If you ask me, it seems that things are always in flux. Nothing feels solid right now. It is like being stuck in a transporter beam and not being able toContinue reading “Life is what happens…”
